NIIT has once again fulfilled its corporate social responsibility by coming to the aid of the Ghana Cricket Association (GCA) with a GH¢2,000 donation. The presentation was made by Managing Director - NIIT at a short ceremony at the head office of i2000 / NIIT Ghana.
NIIT have been following the progress of the teams and realised that the Ghanaian Cricketers have done exceptionally well this year despite meagre resources at its disposal. The national Under-17 tean won the North West Africa trophy in nigeria last week and the senior team posted historic win at ICC Africa World division Three League trophy in South Africa earlier this year in April. This clearly shows that cricket has great future in Ghana.
When more professionalism is seen in players and management of the game, NIIT will definitely have all reasons to continue our support for the sport which has great following in India as well. Mr. Emmanuel Kwame Asare, an executive member of the GCA and Mr. Vanderpuye-Orgle, Chairman of GCA, both thanked NIIT for its gesture and promised to put the money to good use. They stressed that the association has been battling with financial problems for a while.
NIIT has been associated with sports in Ghana for a long time. Last year, it organised the 'NIIT Invitational Challenge Cup 2007' featuring the top national club teams viz. Accra Hearts of Oak, Liberty Professional Dansoman and Hearts of Lion, Kpando which was eventually won by Liberty Professionals who beat Accra Hearts of Oak at El-Wak Stadium.
