• NIIT SUN Knowledge Seminar drew a packed house

October 8, 2008

NIIT-SUN Knowledge Seminar held on October 8 at Hotel Holiday Inn drew a packed house. This was a free Seminar to exhibit the Power of Sun Microsystems' products in Ghana.

NIIT & Sun Microsystems have joined hands to expand technology horizons for students
NIIT students and IT professionals in Ghana and West African countries to gain skills in the latest and most advanced technologies. The alliance will enable a large community of students and IT professionals in Ghana, to gain skills in the latest and most advanced technologies such as Java and Solaris, and contribute to the global talent pool. The partnership will promote ICT capacity development in the region as NIIT Ghana has the largest IT training facilities in West African region, to offer the most advanced curriculum.

Through this alliance, NIIT will have access to the latest Sun technologies, tools, technical resources and curricula on Java and Solaris platforms. Training on the world’s most popular programming language — Java, will be integrated into NIIT’s IT career program, DNIIT. NIIT will also introduce short-term modular programs for students and professionals looking at developing skills in both Java & Solaris technologies. These courses are designed to offer a range of training programs to a broad spectrum of students in Ghana.

Mr. Kapil Gupta, Managing Director, NIIT Ghana urged the students to strive harder to acquire the much needed skills on Java and Solaris to equip them for the best jobs available in the job market today. Recent Collapse of world financial markets, recession in some European and Asian countries and overall poor state on global economies would make the job market more restrictive wherein those with inadequate skills face retrenchment and/or bleak chances of getting employed. Organisations would like to recruit and retain those whose skills are up-to-date with industry expectations. NIIT-Sun Partnership is a step in upgrading skills of professionals and students alike.

Mr. G. Raghavan, President, NIIT, said, “Sun’s Java and Solaris are amongst the fastest growing technologies adopted worldwide today. NIIT’s partnership with Sun has enabled us to integrate training on these platforms into our globally acclaimed IT training programs, to enable thousands of students and professionals become part of the global IT workforce”.

Speaking at the occasion, Mr. Tom Pergrume , Managing Director of SUN Africa said “ It is a great opportunity to bring the Sun Technology to the people of Ghana so that the tremendous potential can be unleashed.”

Ghana is an important and growing IT market where NIIT has been present for over 6 years and has five centres across the country, with a capacity of training more than 7500 students per annum. NIIT has also been working closely with the government, academia and industry in Ghana to foster skilled IT manpower for global talent requirement. NIIT offers advanced curriculum like- ‘Mastermind Series of Program’. Additionally, NIIT Ghana is ‘Oracle WDP Partner’ for Ghana. i2000 has also set up a 2-seater Prometric Testing Centre in association with Thomson Prometric – the largest on-line testing company in the world with exclusive tie-up with numerous vendors like IBM.

Leading global talent developing company, NIIT will offer these training programs through its state-of-the-art training centres in Ghana, where it has trained over 20,000 students cumulatively to date. The launch in Ghana follows close on the heels of the Sun and NIIT partnership announced in Nigeria in June this year.

NIIT ventured into the African continent over a decade ago by setting up its first IT education centre in Botswana in 1997. For nearly a decade now, NIIT has been involved in creation of skilled ICT manpower in the continent and has trained nearly 150,000 students till date. The talent development company is touching over 20,000 learners every year, through three dozen learning centres in 8 African countries- Nigeria, Ghana, Senegal, Libya, Sudan, Botswana, South Africa and Zimbabwe.
