• Presec Legon wins NIIT ICT Expert 2008

NIIT Ghana successfully organised the Inter-school ICT Quiz contest at The Great Hall, Kumasi which showcased the best talent from five Regions of Ghana.

The regional champions from Greater Accra, Ashanti, Brong-Ahafo, Western & Central Regions fought competitively for the ultimate crown – NIIT ICT Expert 2008 Winners. This was the culmination of the event which started on 22nd April 2008 with the orientation of the ICT Coordinators of various senior high schools of the country and traversed through Accra, Tema, Kumasi, Takoradi & Cape Coast over the last two months.

A total of 78 schools participated from these regions in various regional qualifying rounds to make it to the mega-finals. One winner from every region, contested for the National Title of NIIT ICT Expert 2008 in Kumasi.

St. James Seminary SHS ,Sunyani (Brong-Ahafo), PRESEC Legon (Greater Accra), Opoku Ware School, Kumasi (Ashanti Region), St. Augustine’s College, Cape Coast (Central Region) & Baidoo Bonsoe SHS, Takoradi (Western Region) featured in this hotly contested mother of all ICT Quizzes.

In a contest that went through six rounds, PRESEC, Legon emerged as the Winner followed by St. James Seminary, Sunyani as the 1st Runner Up and Opoku Ware School, Kumasi as 2nd Runner Up. Students from the various schools also got the opportunity to answer the questions asked by the honourable judges, and were marked by them accordingly. The complete contest was divided into six rounds and each round featured Questions in the form of Multiple Choice Questions, visuals, Binary & Mathematical calculations or practicals. Prizes worth GHC 4,500 were presented to the winners along with the Trophies and Certificates. The program was aired live on Kapital Radio in Kumasi.

Speaking at this occasion Rev. Emmanuel Kingsley Dadebo representing Honurable Minister of Education applauded the Management of NIIT Ghana for conducting such a good event for the senior high school students and stressed on the need of more practical oriented approach in the ICT education to prepare the students for the job market. He praised NIIT for USD 50,000 scholarship given on the occasion of Ghana @ 50 last year and also organising the first NIIT invitational Challenge cup 2007 for the top football clubs in Ghana. He also commended NIIT for being at the forefront of ICT training by establishing five ICT training centre across Ghana and for maintaining highest standards in corporate responsibility.
